Bradninch will host North Devon in a one-off Twenty20 match on Thursday evening (July 29) to determine who goes through to the County Finals Day.

This is because the Kensham Park side won the Freeman and French Mid Devon Twenty20 beating Halberton in the final on Sunday afternoon.

The first semi-final turned out to be something of a miss-match as Halberton, (with a number of Taunton St Andrews players in their line-up) as the Sampford Peverell based village side also had a North Devon League game to play on the day, overwhelmed Whimple with the scores being 194 and 65.

However the Bradninch versus Sandford clash was much closer, decided on the final delivery with the hosts winning by virtue of having conceded fewer wickets with both teams closing on 127. Ross Acton claimed three wickets for Bradninch.

Teenager Matt Jarrett faced the final delivery with one needed to tie and that would have sent his side through on the ruling of them losing fewer wickets.

There was a throw at the non strikers end that had it hit, would have sent Sandford into the final. It missed and so Bradninch took on Halberton in the late afternoon sun.

Halberton were restricted to 112-9 and that proved well within reach of the home batsmen who got home with five wickets, and almost three overs, to spare, led there by Gary Chappell’s unbeaten 46, for which he received the man of the match award. Ben Pitkin bowled a superb four over spell for the losers taking 1-7.

Bradninch will entertain North Devon this coming Thursday (6pm) and it the game is anything like the pairs meeting in the Francis Clark Devon league game last month then it’s one not to miss!

On that occasion Bradninch won by four runs when they claimed the final North Devon wicket off the penultimate delivery of the game.
