remain in the A Division promotion hunt despite an eight-run win
at home to Plymouth III. The second placed side cannot be
promoted and so Bradninch remain locked in a three team scrap
for the second promotion place.
The visitors batted first and were bowled out for 188 thanks
to the efforts of the veteran all-rounder Simon Bailey who had
driven from Falmouth to play for the side. Bailey finished with
5-31 and then teenager Matt ‘the hawk’ Jarrett hit a superb 59
before he became the third home batsman to get a seemingly raw
deal with a leg before decision!
Young Jarrett got great support from Rob Acton (41) and the
evergreen Andy Nicholls (23), who helped to see the side to
within a couple of lusty blows of snatching victory for
themselves.
One other most noteworthy thing to report is an act of
supreme sportsmanship by our very own Mark 'Budgie' Perrott who
stooped low (well he's closer to the ground I guess than
everybody else - certainly nearer the turf than Biggles) as he
crouched down to re-tie the laces of one of the Plymouth batsmen
- whilst at the crease!
