Source: Stephen Birley The Bradninch top
order came very much 'second best' when they went head-to-head
against Sidmouth's Josh Bess at Fortfield on the penultimate
Saturday in July.
Dan Hardy (0), Haydn Murray (4), skipper Ross Acton (9) and
Nick Dean (0), all fell to the pace man as he claimed 4-36 in 15
overs.
Tim Piper (1) and Gary Chappell (10) both fell cheaply as
well. At 43-6 the visiting innings was in big trouble. Then
Eliot Acton showed the higher order how it is done and he put on
61 with Joe Webb before the latter departed for an excellent 36.
Teenager Acton was the joined by his father Chris and the
pair added a further 23 before the younger Acton departed the
middle. Chris stayed on and ended unbeaten on 24. The last two
batsmen, Billy Wakeley and Paul Nott, both scored one each and
the final wicket fell with the Bradninch total on 143 after 47
overs.
That total was certainly nowhere near good enough to worry
the hosts and they lost just two wickets chasing the total down,
sealing victory one ball into the 34th over.
Nick Dean (1-28 from 5.1 overs, was the only successful
bowler). The other figures were: Skipper Ross Acton 0-33 in
four, Eliot Acton 0-15 in six, Gary Chappell 0-21 in eleven,
Paul Nott 0-26 in five, Haydn Murray 0-19 in one and Dan Hardy
0-3 in one.
With five games to go, Bradninch sit four places and 25
points clear of the drop zone and their next two games offer
them chance to make it a stress free run–in, as they take on two
of the sides below them in the table.
This Saturday they welcome back to Kensham Park former
skipper Joel Murphy with his Budleigh side and the week after
they go to Exeter.
