Source: Stephen Birley Yes, the headline
says it all! Club Secretary and all-round Mr Cricket, Chris Dean
had a day to remember when Bristol based Stapleton made their
annual visit to Kensham Park.
Dean, more often seen opening the batting or keeping wicket,
was deployed as a front line bowler and he gave the selectors an
almighty shove by claiming a six wicket haul - finishing with
splendid figures of 6-38.
Indeed Mr Secretary might even had had three more as was
confirmed by the club’s resident Aussie, the likeable Haydn
Murray, who confirmed during an appearance for the Cricket Club
II Darts Team (competing in the 2010 Les Kent Memorial,
Bradninch Summer Darts), that he had indeed got a bit of a
finger to one of the deliveries from Dean that bamboozled the
batsman only to be put down in the slip cordon:
“That means I could have had a ninefer”
lamented Dean to anybody who was within hearing distance!
As it was Bradninch defeated Stapleton thanks to that six
wicket haul from Dean and a late order rally that saw Tom Hardy
(yes, the youngest of that most magnificent of cricket families
the Hardys) and Murray, who both registered scores of 36 to lead
the hosts to a two wicket win.
The early runs were recorded by Matt Jarrett, who continues
to impress with his keen eye and powerful hitting. The final
word then to six wicket man Dean:
“Certainly ‘twas one of my finest days
with the ball!”
– and so say all of us.
