The Bradninch 2nd XI was hit by a spinner who later this month will play in Sri Lanka for the Pakistan A side. Raza Hasan arrived in the UK a couple of weeks after his compatriot; Hammad Azam pitched up to play for Budleigh. With the rules meaning one overseas player per side, Hasan turned out for the Ottermouth 2nd XI and became an instant hit with five wickets in his first game!

The hosts batted first and closed on 211-7 with Andy Nicholls (3-38) and Mark Perrott (2-45) claiming wickets. Hasan then took 6-37 as only Syed Hussain made any impression in the post-tea reply, the final wicket falling on 130, consigning the side to an 81 run defeat.

Hasan has one more game to play for the Ottermouth side before he and fellow countryman Hammad Azam, who helped Budleigh 1st XI to a five wicket win at Bradninch on Saturday return to Pakistan to join the A squad for the tour of Sri Lanka.

The defeat is a big blow to the side’s bid to bring top flight 2nd XI cricket to Kensham Park. With just four games and eighty points remaining in the 2010/11 Francis Clark 2nd XI Championship A Division season, the side sit mid-table, 47 points short of 2nd placed Plymouth III (who cannot be promoted) - and so 25 points adrift of Budleigh II and a dozen short of Tavistock. Without doubt this coming Saturday’s home game with Tavistock is one of those ‘last chance saloon’ promotion games - win it and it looks to be a three team race for the second promotion spot!

Remaining games:
Bradninch Tavistock (H)), Sidmouth III (A), Abbotskerswell (A), Plymstock (H).

Budleigh: South Devon (H), Hatherleigh (A), Plymouth III (H) and Tavistock (A).

Tavistock: Bradninch (A), South Devon (H), Plymouth III (A) and Budleigh (H)
