In D Division East in 2005 there will not be a single side who has played at any level higher than a Regional D Division. CULLOMPTON are new to this particular section, though not the level for they have "switched" from 'D' West into 'D' East following the lead of Feniton who did so twelve months ago and got the desired promotion. With just one place available for that elusive promotion prize this is surely going to be a keenly, and closely, fought competition.
Mid Devon sides make up nearly half of the numbers, CLYST HYDON, into the section as Champions of E Division East, will be hoping that the step up will not be as traumatic as the last time they moved up a level. Then, in 2003, having gone up as runners up, they plummeted straight back down but boosted by their Championship season the go ahead village side will surely prosper at this level.
KENTISBEARE will be hoping to improve on three seasons of fighting relegation, successive finishes of 8th followed a 7th place in 2002 all this far, far away from their glorious season of 2001 when they actually won the D Division East Title.
EXE VALLEY are a "new" side, having being "born" as a result of the Tiverton and Bickleigh Cricket Clubs merger and that, by definition, will surely make them stronger whilst the only other former Divisional winners in this section are UPLYME, who won the E Division East title two seasons ago.
KENN, promoted alongside Clyst Hydon after spending the past four years in E Division West, and OTTERY ST MARY, who have a consistently decent record at this level with three 3rd place and one 5th place finish in the last four seasons, will both surely harbour ambitions of moving up into 'C' Division.
The Section is completed with the presence of YARCOMBE, a regular fixture at this level over the past four seasons, KILMINGTON, who have finished 2nd, 5th and 7th in recent years and WOODBURY, who bounced straight back after relegation a couple of campaigns ago and who finished a creditable 4th in 2004. D Division East is sure to throw up quite a battle for promotion!
