William Birley mustered his Under-15s for the first outdoor net of the season on Friday, March 14. It’s testimony to the sport that young Birley has fostered amongst his age group that no fewer than ten of his 14-player squad were on duty for the first outdoor session.
Until now the lads have been meeting at the Culm Valley Sports Centre where they have been getting great support from the Kentisbeare CC youth coach Dave Bunker. Now the days are drawing out – and the outfield has been trimmed, the nets are ready for action!
It was a good hour-long session organised by the Under-15s skipper who had half his number in the left hand net and the other half were put through their paces with a fielding session before the two groups swapped over halfway through.
The Under-15s will continue to meet each Friday night (5pm to 6pm) outdoors – weather permitting -through until the start of their season in early May.
In terms of the Birley fundraising for the coloured kit the youngster yearns for his team to wear. It currently stands at £145 – just over half way to his target which would provide each player in the squad with a green playing kit.
