The 2nd XI suffered a big blow to their hopes of promotion out of the B Division East when beaten by five wickets at Thorverton.
Batting first the 2nd XI closed on 184-7 after a full 45 overs with Mark Ashplant top scoring with 47. Bryn Jones hit 39 whilst Chris Dean (16no), Paul Nott (16), Liam Reed (15no) and Thom Bunker (14), all recorded double figure scores. The other batters were Robert Acton (6), Pete Hardy (4 retired hurt), Derrick Foan (3) and Ryan Shrewsberry (0).
Thorverton got home with five wickets and just under two overs to spare on 185-5. Ryan Shrewsberry bagged a brace with figures of 2-35 from 9 overs and Mark Ashplant also got two wickets (2-20 off two overs). Paul Nott sent down a full shift of nine overs for the first time since fearing his cricket career was over owing to a shoulder injury and returned the splendidly economic figures of 0-16. Phil Chappell was wicket less – his eight overs went for 35 and skipper Rob Acton took 1-50 in nine. Thom Bunker was the other of the six bowlers to see action. His six overs came at a cost of 26 runs.
