The club has advised the South Devon League of our decision to leave the league after one year of membership.
The reason for us leaving is that it became clear, with the loss of both Topsham St James and Kenn, that we would not have anything like a local game on a Sunday.
The alternative was for Steve Birley to take on the unenviable task of seeking a full list of Sunday fixtures as what is clear – with a 1st XI in the Premier and a 2nd XI playing in the third tier of 2nd XI cricket- that the gap between 1st and 2nd XI is going too big and, given the need to get the 2nd XI promoted ands therefore an influx of new players required to see that through – an alternative weekend fixture was/is required so we can continue to offer cricket to the wide range of standards we have within the club.
The early signs for the Sunday XI are VERY GOOOD and the team (to be skippered by Thom Bunker with the veteran campaigner that is Chris Dean as his number two) will play the likes of Tipton St John and Broadclyst – both new fixtures for 2017 – as well as also engage in games with the likes of Kenn, Topsham St James, Clyst Hydon and, of course, the touring sides who seem to love coming to Kensham Park.
The 2017 Sunday fixture list so far confirmed (the plan is to have three Sunday XI matches a month).
