A very special event takes place at Bradninch Cricket Club on Sunday, July 15, when the ashes of the late (and great) Simon Bailey will be laid to rest on the Kensham ground outfield.
The event is being led by Rob ‘Hooch’ Gitsham who says:
“As per Simon’s wishes at his funeral it will not be a service in the religious sense. The event will be led by me and hopefully along with contributions from Simon’s family and friends from Yorkshire, I hope there will be a few stories from friends in Devon and Bradninch in particular.”
Members of Simon’s family are going to be attending and it is hoped that as many folk as possible both with a link to the cricket club and, of course, Simon will come along and join us for a special occasion at which Simon will be so fondly remembered. On the day things get underway at 11.30am.
There is also the matter of July 15 being the Finals Day of the Servicemaster Devon T20 which ‘might’ involve Bradninch, who are playing in then fourth quarter final next Sunday (July 8) at North Devon and the winners will join Exmouth, Plymouth and Cullompton at Budleigh Salterton, so if the 1st XI are successful on July 8, then, for those who will undoubtedly want to honour Simon and then support the 1st XI, there will be that chance.
Here’s hoping for a fitting turnout at 11.30 on July 15.
