The club is delighted to announce the signing of Charles Walker of whom chairman Derrick Foan says:
“We are delighted to have got Charlie on board and I am sure he’ll prove to be a big hit with both our players and the Kensham Park faithful. His signing underlines our serious intent to do everything we can to get the club back into the top tier of Francis Clark Devon league cricket.”
So who is the latest signing?
Charles Walker was born in Bristol on May 21, 1992.
He is a right-handed batsman who bowls right-arm off break.
While studying for his degree at Oxford Brookes, Walker made his first-class debut for Oxford MCCU against Lancashire in 2011.
He made a further first-class appearance for the team in that season, against Sussex. In his matches in 2011, he scored 69 runs at an average of 34.50, with a high score of 43.
During the 2011 season, he also made his Minor Counties debut for Herefordshire, making four appearances in the Minor Counties Championship against Shropshire, Hertfordshire, Cornwall and Wales Minor Counties.
His debut against Shropshire on July 10, 2011, played at High Town Bridgnorth, was a three-day game in which he scored eight in the first innings and not out nine in the second of a drawn match.
He then hit an unbeaten 60 from 88 balls with nine fours and one six, as Herefordshire defeated Dorset
In the August 2011, game against Cornwall he had knocks of three and 16 before the final Minor Counties fixture of 2014 against Wales in which he scored one and 17.
In 2012 Charlie played four more Minor County matches. He scored 19 in the meeting with Shropshire before a knock of five in a rain-affected game against Devon at Sidmouth. Next up a splendid 73 to follow a first innings of 22 in the game with Oxfordshire and finally that year 16 followed by a 5-0 in a heavy defeat to Wiltshire.
The 2013 season was a superb one for him. It began with an early June meeting with Wales in which Herefordshire lost by 10 wickets, but Walker registered his first Minor Counties century with a knock of 116 off 141 balls with 19 fours. In the second innings he was out for two. Next up, a July meting with Devon in which he scored 57 and 34 in a drawn game. That was followed by his highest Minor Counties knock of 155 from 178 balls with 27 fours. He put on a whopping 248 for the third wicket with MP O’Shea (141). That was against Dorset at Dean Court, Bournemouth. He then scored a fine 80 in the second innings of the meeting with Oxfordshire (he had a four in the first innings) and rounded the 2013 Minor Counties season off with a knock of 18 in a rain hit meeting with Wiltshire.
Walker has played in a game against current Bradninch CC skipper Dan Hardy and all-rounder Ross Acton! It was in 2009 when Walker was in the Somerset 2nd XI that played Devon Under-21s in a 50-over match played at Exmouth on June 8.
Walker was bowled Acton for six. ‘Roscoe’ went on to take 4-26 from 9.2 overs (Gary Chappell also played and bowled taking 1-15 from nine overs). Dan hardy then opened the batting for Devon who raced to a nine wicket with the Bradninch CC 2015 skipper scoring an unbeaten 43 from 87 balls, hitting four 4s.
