Steve Birley is now back at his Bradninch home recuperating after his latest surgery – to have new right ankle.
‘Biggles’, as he is more commonly known as in club circles now has a plastic left ankle to go with his pig-bone strengthened back, titanium strengthened neck and the new stainless steel left Exeter hip, the latter fitted 12 months ago.
He must be none weight bearing for the next 10 days before the back plaster is removed to be replaced with a protective boot.
“I’d like to thank everyone for their good wishes – especially dear Annie (the wife of the club president) and Paul (vice chairman). I face the next 10 days at home with instructions to be totally non-weight bearing before having a padded boot fitted which all means I can be scoring for the 2nd XI in the April 30 game at Clyst Hydon II, I got a new score book for the job just before going into hospital.”
