Busy penultimate Saturday of the month

The club’s 2nd XI were in action at Kentisbeare today (Saturday, April 23) with a trip to Kentisbeare. Thom Bunker – who joined us from the Kents – was unable to play as he has an important last match of the football season to play – for Kentisbeare – at Upottery. However, Will Greig makes his first appearance in a team that also includes Cameron Suidgeest, Chris Acton, Rob Acton, Ryan Shrewsberry and Will Birley.

A number of the club senior players travelled to Instow to take part in the Tom Allin Memorial matches. There’s action all day long starting with the serving of breakfast in the pavilion from 8.30am.

The first of three 10-overs-per-side matches began at 10am with Bideford taking on North Devon and at 1pm Bideford play a Tom Allin XI skippered by Chris Metters who of course played for us last season. The round-robin cricket action concluded with a 3pm game between the Tom Allin XI and North Devon.

A buffet meal was to be served from 6pm and a Race Night began at 7.30pm.

In other local cricket; neighbours Cullompton fielded a strong XI for their pre-season friendly with Countess Wear. The Cully XI included former Tiverton skipper Brendan Parr (our indoor players know how hard this chap hits the ball!) – he scored 96 on his debut for the Landspeed Meadow side the week before, and also former Feniton and Honiton all-rounder Adi Pullin. The Cully team is: Jack Grandfield Brendon Parr Prince Xavier Adrian Pullin Josh Richards Stephen Paul Darren Paul Euan Tinley Kalann Nessling Graham Bowles and Richard Stevenson.

Thorverton have a 2nd XI game against Sidmouth and Clyst Hydon have Sunday action when they entertain the same Newton St Cyres side that are due to be the opposition for the first BCC game at Kensham Park next Sunday (May 1).
