In the semi-finals of the Euro Shopper Devon Senior Cup we will play Exeter after the County Ground side saw off Bovey Tracey in their quarter final tie by six wickets.
Batting first, Bovey were bowled out for 154 in just 36.2 overs with former Bradninch player Matt Goulding top scoring with 39 from the number three slot.
England Under-19 player Ben Green opened the bowling for Exeter but ended without a wicket (0-15 from seven). Blake Reed took the bowling honours with three wickets for four runs in 3.2 overs. Former Somerset star Alphonso Thomas sent down six overs (1-26). Callum Still (2-36) and Nick Horne (2-20) were the other home wicket takers.
Reed then combined with Rob Holman to launch the reply and the pair put on 80 at a run-a-ball before Holman fell to Devon player Codd who had put our Sunday side to the sword three weeks before in a South Devon League game. From there it was plain sailing for Exeter who got home with 22 overs and one ball still to play.
The semi-finals are set for Sunday, July 10 which is also the date for the Exeter and East Devon T20 Area Finals being held at Kensham Park. Exeter are not involved in that competition as they were knocked out by Heathcoat. We hope to be – subject to Friday night’s T20 game at Budleigh.
Even so, the fact we are hosting Finals Day means the 10th is not available and seven days later (July 17) – which is also the reserve date for the T20 Finals Day – we have a scheduled ECB U19 T20 day with matches against Exeter and Ottery St Mary for our U19 side so it is hoped we can get the semi-final played on Sunday July 24.
The final of the cup is at Tavistock on August 21 (with the reserve date the week after).
