James Harris captains well as Under-13s undone by Sidmouth

The club’s Under-13s entertained Sidmouth for their latest match, a contest played out at a sun-kissed Kensham Park.

In terms of the outcome, the final scores were; Sidmouth 83 for 3 of 20 overs; Bradninch 53 for 9 off 20 overs. Sidmouth won by 31 runs.

Chris Piper reports:

“The sun shone at Kensham Park and the Under 13s enjoyed a great evening of competitive cricket. This was Bradninch Cricket Club at its best. The boys were strongly supported by parents, family and friends and Nat Hunt came up trumps (as usual) with cakes, biscuits and drinks! “Dave the Argentinean” scored for the evening and Vinny Clark umpired. The bar was manned by Eddie and the Club was represented by none other than chairman, Derrick Foan and first team captain, Tim Piper! Thank you all for coming and supporting. It makes a huge difference to the youngsters.

So, our first home match against some quality opposition from Sidmouth, showed that we have the makings of a very decent side. The under 13s are currently stronger in the bowling department than in batting, but I am sure this will soon be rectified. Again, James Harris captained wisely and was very ably supported by the ‘senior’ members of the side, Charlie Putt and Sam Leathes. Charlie has the makings of a fine wicket keeper/ batsman and Sam is very handy with both the bat and ball. Ryan Hill, Charlie Piper and James Harris were in the wickets and bowled tightly. They were ably assisted by Mattie Bloomfield, Ben Hickey and Dexter McClandlish. Sam Leathes and Charlie Putt make a very useful opening pair and got their innings off to a good start. Unfortunately, the middle order wasn’t able to capitalise on this but everyone made a sterling effort.

One thing that is very apparent is that the boys need to work on their calling and running between the wickets. Bradninch would have probably been right up to Sidmouth’s score if the singles (and second runs) had been taken….but that will happen next time!

‘I am sure Dave B, Cameron and Dave (the Argentinean) will work on this at Friday’s coaching session.”

Chris concluded:

“It was fabulous to welcome three new players on board – namely Joe Hartley, Aaron Snow and Kai Stopforth.

None of them had played in a cricket match before and they all showed, to a man, that they will be very useful team members.”

The next under-13 match is on MONDAY, JUNE 6th against Sidmouth. More information will follow in due course.
