Lauts on losing side in South American final

Lautaro Musiani – who of course became ‘one of ours’ during the summer of 2016, had bitter sweet feelings at the end of the 2016 South American Cricket Championships.

Lautaro – otherwise known as Dave to his many friends at BCC – was in the Argentina team that faced Chile in the final of the T20 competition.

Argentina batted first and scored163-7 with Lauts, batting at four, going in with his team 7-2! He went on to top score with 55 from just 33 balls hitting six fours and three sixes.

The Chile reply was launched by the delightfully names Major Singh Sohi Mandy with Mohit Singh and the latter was out for a duck – caught by Lautaro off the bowling of Dan Sutton who took 2-39 in his four overs.

It was a knock of 72 by number four bat Manveet Singh that saw Chile to victory with the winning runs scored with just two balls of the match remaining.

There is one amusing line in the score card which reads – with Chille batting – JM Bensted caught A Ferguson bowled Abhiram Hiremagalur Raghuprakash for 3. Is that Alex Ferguson playing cricket in South America?

Lautaro says:

“I really enjoyed the experience. We fielded an ‘A’ team in the final and Chile had an eleven full of ex-pats. It was very disappointing to lose as we did.”

The disappointment for Lauts was tempered by the fact that he was awarded the trophy for ‘Best Batsman of the Tournament’.
