The U13’s extended a warm Bradninch welcome yesterday to Sandford on a rather chilly evening for July! Many thanks to all the parents and supporters who turned out to watch. Thanks very much to all the people who helped, Will Birley was our umpire, Bill Leathes kindly sat and scored in the blustery conditions, Elaine served the tea and cake, and Eddie was on the bar….the atmosphere up there was great! Also a special mention to Ben Hickley (U11’s) on his first appearance for the U13’s. Thanks as always to Steve Rowe for all his input with the team.
Sandford batted first and racked up a good score of 122 for 5 despite our good fielding. Jack Manning took 2 wickets (1 bowled and 1 caught and bowled), Charlie Putt also took 2 (1 stumped by Vinny and the other caught by Vinny). James Coles also caught and bowled 1. It was good bowling all round and the fielders also did a great job in the difficult conditions.
It thumped it down with rain during the interval, but cleared up again ready for the Bradninch teams innings. Unfortunately for our players, the Sandford bowling was very good indeed and they made it very difficult for our batters to get many runs!
They persevered though another little shower and young James Harris (from the U11’s team) was our highest scoring batsman with 17 runs. The Bradninch final score was 68 for 8, and as always, the team were upbeat and happy at the end of the game.
I think the visitors enjoyed themselves….they are hoping we can arrange a friendly fixture with them at Bradninch in the next few weeks and we’re planning to mix the teams up. I’ll be in touch with details once I’ve sorted out a date.
I have agreed a re-arranged game at Woodbury on Tuesday 21st July so please keep the date free if you can and I’ll be in touch about that one soon.
The last and most important thing from me is we are also planning a players V parents match at some point so you might want to get some training in and watch this space for updates on that too!
