1st XI scorer Bernadette Kent would have been forgiven for a feeling of déjà vu from the score box at Torquay on the opening day of this new league season.
Indeed ‘Dette’ as she is more popularly known – posted on FB after the match at Torquay that she had seen similar in 2013.
We have been back through the archives to find out about that opening day of the 2013 Premier season and it saw Bradninch in action at the Maer ground home of Exmouth CC where, amongst the home team was current BCC captain Gary Chappell.
Exmouth bat first and powered to a declaration at 325-5 with ‘Chaps’ batting at number eight, slamming a 13 ball unbeaten 48 with five 4s and four 6s.
Bradninch used seven bowlers – Paul Not (0-44 in nine), Ross Acton (2-62 in eight), Jackson Thompson (0-62 in ten), Will Squire (1-63 in six), Tim Clewes (0-21 in one), Dan Hardy (2-57 in 10) and Tim Piper (0-13 in one).
The reply saw Bradninch close on 125-9 with Jackson Thompson the top scorer with 55 – scored off just 32 balls with nine 4s and two 6s – whilst Ross Acton (12) and Tim Clewes (13) were the only other batters to reach double figures.
That season proved to be a tough one as the team ended up being relegated from the top flight, losing their first five matches, but that was also the season Kensham Park was lit up in a July meeting with Budleigh Salterton when Thompson scored that ‘ne’er to be forgotten’ 222 off 108 deliveries with 22 4s and 14 sixes, a game that served up the first top flight win of that particular campaign.
