Skittlers hit top spot with new alley record

The cricket club skittlers re-wrote the history books on the final Wednesday of February when they took on the only team to sit above them in the Sampford Peverell and District Skittles League.

Entertaining Globetrotters at the Kensham Club, the team won by a whopping 121 pins with a new alley record of 548 to the visitors’ 427!

Chris Hatherley, who, in his time at Kensham Park was a hugely talented batsman but these days plays a mean round of golf at the Exeter Golf and Country Club, top-scored with five spares in his 86.

This was one more skittle than the 85 chalked up by ‘Mr Cricket Club’ Eddie ‘eagle-eyed’ Andress who had three spares – one of them of 25 pins.

Jason Dowrick was next in the individual honours with a three spare – one of 23 – contribution of 78, Jonny Reed chipped in with a three-spare 66 and Chris Acton weighed in with a two-spare 66.

The skittlers now share top spot with Globetrotters.
