Sunday League side coming together

Robert Gitsham – better known as  ‘Hooch’ is set to play once again for the club. Bob – that’s another name he’s well known as, certainly carries the title of ‘club legend’ and he left the club a few years back to play on a regular basis for Ottery St Mary and then, more recently, for his local side in Somerset. However, he’s  keen to play on Sundays this season and has asked to be involved in the South Devon League team skippered by young Will Birley who says:

“Dad’s told me all about Robert and he’ll be a valuable member of the team. I look forward to playing alongside him.”

Another player to announce he’d like to play on Sundays is former BCC youth coach Steve Rowe. Steve used to be a key player for the 2nd XI, but a change to his postman duties meant he could not play Saturday cricket, but he can – and indeed wants to – play on Sundays.

With Chris ‘Deano’ Deane, also putting his name forward to play on a regular basis the Sunday League side, which hopes to field a 6/5 – or 7/4 split on youth and experience, is coming together nicely.

The team begin their 10-match season on Sunday, May 8, with a trip to Ashburton.
