Tea. To eat or not to eat? That IS the question

Cricket TeaAre teas set to be a thing of the past – OR is the age old tradition of a ‘cricket tea’ set to rise on Devon League match days

That’s one of many debating items to be discussed at the Devon League AGM this Friday.

Budleigh Salterton lead the charge in terms of asking for clubs to pay £42 a tea instead of the £33 it has been for – well yonks! On the other side of the fence sit Plymouth CC who have proposed SCRAPPING teas and have a 15-minute break between innings. (The following is NOT the view of BCC but IS the view of the scribe!). Personally, I think teas have had their day – they simply ADD to the costs that players are being charge and I firmly believe that many younger players (16 plus) are being seriously put off by the rising cost of cricket.

What would I suggest? That’s simple. A 15-minute turnaround and a post match plate of food – even a pastie and a pint. That way we MIGHT get more folk staying longer at clubs and thereby generating more funds for the club). OK – what do others think – the debate is open right here, right now!
