The Pipers Farm BCC Player of the Month awards

The end of the first month of the Tolchards Devon League season means it’s time to name the 1st XI and 2nd XI Pipers Farm BCC Players of the Month.

So who are the candidates?

The 1st XI has CHARLIE WALKER for his 5-16 at Sandford.

WILL SQUIRE who claimed 4-9 in the win over Tavistock.

ROSS ACTON for his 3-21 in the Tavistock game

JOSH CANN who scored 20 in a valiant knock in the defeat at Sandford.

LUANDRE VAN WYK who ended the month as the leading catcher in the club.

The 2nd XI has CHRIS ACTON who received several nominations in the opening matches: 72 at Bideford, 62 home against Alphington and 5-26 at Clyst Hydon

WILL BIRLEY – who appeared in the Sunday Independent each week in all but the Clyst Hydon game when he was not needed to bowl) – he claimed 10 wickets in the month – this after taking 11 all the previous season, and he also recorded his highest score in men’s cricket (23) in the defeat at Braunton.

DERRICK FOAN for a terrific 52 at Bideford.

BRYN JONES for an unbeaten 62 in the win over Seaton – plus he and Chris Acton ended the month with an opening average of 41.

LUKE WRIGHTSON hit his highest score in league cricket (24) at Braunton.

RYAN SHREWSBERRY who hit that stunning 67 at Braunton.

KEV MANNING who ended the month the top catcher and who bowled well consistently in the first month of the season.

PHIL CHAPPELL for that miserly 1-9 return from nine splendid overs at Bideford.
