U19 cup set to bring thrills – and spills – to Kensham Park

The club are all set to embrace the new ECB initiative of the ECB Under-19 cup. Will Birley, together with Thom Bunker, Max Cooper and Ryan Shrewsberry are busy looking to recruit players for the Under-19 side which will play in the national competition in 2016.

The format for the Under-19 cup mirrors the senior competition and, for 2016, the BRADNINCH EAGLES will be in a qualifying group with EXETER, SIDMOUTH and OTTERY ST MARY.

Each team will play the other once ands the ECB are providing all sorts of back up from music selections to play during the games, four and six cards for supporters to wave when the big hits happen, posters to put around the neighbourhood to draw the crowds in – and other supporting things.

Steve Birley says:

“This is a cracking initiative from the Devon Cricket Board/ECB. Organiser Sam Dent has worked very hard to get clubs involved and it looks a great format. Much has been said of late of the need for the game to change in the way it presents itself to the young players and this competition is one such idea. I know a number of Wills friends are really not interested in afternoon (and early evening) – long games, but the idea of crash-bang-wallop cricket that is over in a couple of hours does appeal.

Will thinks he can put together a team that will stand up against what are strong opposition side.

A competition rule allows our club to ‘link up’ with TWO others and I know Will, Thom and the others are looking hard at just which clubs we can link with to get.”

Dates are yet to be set for the game, but rest assured once we know – you’ll know!
