We took eight players to Woodbury for our final (but see later in the report as it MAY not be!) Under-13 team game of the season.
The Woodbury manager had kindly offered to lend us a couple of players so that the game could go ahead as we have lots away on holiday currently. Many thanks to the U11 players again for helping us out, the parents for getting everyone there, Bill for umpiring and Tim who scored and froze in the process!
Our players were in great spirits as always. Vinny lost the toss and Woodbury chose to bat first. Bradninch both bowled and fielded very well, it was definitely one of their best performances of the season and we kept the hosts down to a score of 115 for 3. Wickets were taken by both Fran Piper and young Charlie Piper. Ben Wigmore threw in for a fantastic run out….not for the first time this season either, he has such a great throw! Fran’s bowling was fantastic (just 11 runs conceded off three splendid overs).
Ben Wigmore put in his best ever bowling performance (eight off his two overs), and Alex Wright also bowled well, with no runs being scored off the bat when he was bowling.
Unfortunately, our batting was not up to the exceptional bowling we saw from two of the Woodbury team, who both took three fantastic wickets! Vinny was the highest scoring batsmen, with 19 runs scored before being bowled by a cheeky young East Devon spin bowler. One of the borrowed lads did well, scoring 12 runs for us, but we were all out for 62 when another borrowed player also couldn’t match his own team’s fantastic bowling and was out first ball in the 17th over!
I’m hoping that this won’t be quite our last game of the season, as I’m still determined to get our postponed game with Feniton re-arranged and Sandford would still like to come over for a friendly too! I’ll let you know dates if I can get them sorted.
Our trip to Somerset CC was washed out last Friday and so I have claimed for ticket refunds. The money will be returned to me in the next couple of weeks. I am thinking about getting up there on a different date for a 40 over match…I think Monday the 17th is the only date possible. Would anyone like to come with me? Child tickets are £5. It’s a day long thing so we’d leave at around 9.30am and be back early evening all being well. Please let me know if you child would like to come as transport space will be on a first come first serve basis.
