Will ‘Big Bully’ play against Bradninch on match day two of the Tolchards Devon League season?
Budleigh Salterton are sweating on a visa issue being resolved in time to allow them to field Zimbabwean all-rounder Cephas Zhuwao in Saturday’s Ottermouth, Budleigh, meeting with Bradninch.
Zhuwao, who has played for Zimbabwe, was expected to be in the country in time to play against Brixham last Saturday.
Visa problems delayed his arrival, although as the game was called off it wasn’t a huge problem for Budleigh skipper Lloyd White, who has his fingers crossed for this week.
Zhuwao forged a glowing reputation in local cricket which earned him first-class recognition for Mashonaland and Northerns. After promising domestic performances he gained selection for the respective Zimbabwe Cricket Board XI and A sides, before making his ODI and T20 debut for the national side. His nickname is ‘Big Bully’!
Seeking more cricket, Big Bully headed to England in 2013 and was a revelation, certainly living up to his big hitting reputation. The strong left-hander plundered 1,437 runs at 58.92 in all formats for Thames Valley League club Eversley, to include five hundreds and 699 runs at 49.93 in the league. His incredible innings against the Lashings World XI, where he struck 10 towering maximums (many off Saqlain Mustaq) en-route to a 40-ball 80 culminated with selection for Lashings throughout the rest of the summer. He didn’t disappoint, belting some incredible innings for the World XI, including a breath-taking 36-ball 119* that included 14 sixes.
Budleigh skipper Lloyd White said:
“I really hope he is here this Saturday, but still waiting to here news about his visa. To get a player like Cephas is fantastic. To have someone with not only international experience, but a player who can change matches in a matter of overs is a real bonus. He has only been here a few days but has already fitted in so well. He certainly lives up to his nickname and I just can’t wait to see him get going in the league. Cephas will also be actively involved in our Friday night club nights and I have no doubt he will be a real asset to the club this season.”
Bowlers James Leat and Rob Newman are not available against Bradninch, neither is batter Sam Richardson, but Harry Parkin and Rob Craze will come in.
