Youth section leader completes programme at local school

The club’s head of youth affairs, Natalie Hunt, has just finished a programme at the local Primary School and here is her report – it certainly makes for heartening reading – WELL DONE NAT!
Bradninch Cricket Club have just finished a programme of cricket sessions at The Duchy School, delivered by me (Nat Hunt, Junior Section Coordinator) and funded by the ‘Chance to Shine’ programme. I was assisted by Liam and Vinny from the club, and Lautaro our Argentinian national who is playing for Bradninch this season also made a couple of guest appearances too!
We had a 5 week block with years 5 & 6, teaching them bowling, batting, fielding, adapted games they could play and very importantly about the spirit of cricket. We also ran 6 after school sessions for key stage 2 which became very popular. We played many different types of cricket and practiced various skills in these sessions too.
It has been a lot of fun to be able to help teach the children that cricket is both fun, and a sport that appeals to so many. The skills required to play are so varied, therefore anyone can do some aspect of it even though it often takes a bit of practice before the children realise it!
The social skills that playing cricket helps to develop were rewarded throughout the sessions with certificates and t-shirts. Many of those who took part were ‘Spirit of Cricket’ Ambassadors throughout, but I would like to particularly mention Jonathon Oliver, Mary Williams, Cody Foster, Woody Mather and Freya Knotting who showed respect for each other, respect for the umpire, respect for the opposition and played fair at all times.
It is National Cricket Week 20th-24th June and I am organising a cricket tournament for The Duchy and Broadclyst Primary to be held at the club during that week. We have so much happening up at the club during the upcoming weeks and months being that it is our 125th birthday. Check the Website for upcoming events as supporters are always welcome. Our junior training nights are Fridays, normally from 6pm-7pm and we are still welcoming anyone who would like to try us out. I personally think it is the best place in Bradninch to be on a Friday night, and I know many of our members would agree! My email address is, please get in touch if you have any questions.
